When destroying M7s or larger, you can make millions in one whack. The fastest way I found to make money is the assassination missions. I can't play vanilla either, because I know that once I start, I wouldn't be satisfied and would start modding anyway. It is only available on Steam I think and it is an expansion (not sure if saves carry over, don't think they do) on X3: Terran Conflict so you have to have both on Steam. There was a point in my life that I thouroughly enjoyed modding my games, but for X3 and some others it became a job instead of a hobby/game.

Definitely a popular series with many folks on this board. I spend countless hours with X2, so I just need to invest some time to get used to the new interface. I haven't gotten beyond installing it and flying in a small circle. Terran Conflict is set after the events of Reunion, and allows you to choose your player character from a selection of different starts. It's hard to wrap my brain around sifting through all that information to get something that I want. I haven't seen Terran Conflict in stores here, but I picked up X3:Reunion a while back. Basically, Reunion is a direct sequel to the plots of X and X2 (featuring the same player character as 2, and picking up right where 2 left off). Go into any of them, like the MARs turret control one and you can see the inherent complexity. I mean, just look at this ridiculous script and mod library database thread. that is so real that it can become like having a job. It's a simulator for space commerce/exploration/empire building, etc. X3 is a decent game in vanilla, and a freaking beast in mods Honestly this game is a space sandbox you don’t wanna get out of The mods are very stable and overhaul mods such as Litcubes Universe and Mayhem take empire building to the next level This will be the best couple of dollars you spend on a space sim PERIOD. It's actually work for me to get everything the way I like it. I was heavily into it at one point, but the complexity of the game and the mods far outweights anything in my life.
